The 1910 Silent Version of Wizard of Oz was written and featured Frank L. Baum.
Today March 21st Wizard of Oz is being shown on Turner Classic Movies. This station is known too as TCM. The version they will be showing is the one made in 1939. However there is a much earlier Oz It was released in 1910. Dorothy was played by Bebe Daniels. At the age of nine she made her debut with this moving picture. Much later in the early 30s she would be the star, Dorothy Brock, whose foot is broken in 42nd Street. An under study acted by Ruby Keeler takes her place and becomes a star. The Great Oz was portrayed by none other than Frank L. Baum himself. In case you're unfamiliar with him. He is the writer of the "Wizard of Oz" The movie was silent. I can't tell how popular it was at the box office. It was directed by Otis Turner. The screen writers were Baum and Turner. The film was based on the 1902 stage musical of the beloved fantasy.
