My father was in a movie with Alan Freed
My father was in a movie titled "Don't Knock the Rock." I say it was a movie since I reserve the term film for a motion picture with some quality and/or sophistication.
Don't Knock the Rock was a 50s quickie capitalizing on that fairly new teen music craze, rock and roll.
The plot was how the old fogie grownups were putting down R&R
as being too threatening to them. The rest of the pic is how the emcee played by Alan Freed and the performers prove that the new sound is just teenagers having fun. In fact its perfectly harmless.
My father played one of the performers. He portrayed himself.
It was a real stretch lol. His band was Dave Appell and the Applejacks. Others were Little Richard Penniman and Bill Haley and the Comets It was directed by Fred Sears
He directed "Earth vs Flying Saucers and Wolf Man.
It was a Columbia picture. So it was from a major studio.
It was made for less than one hundred dollars. Okay that's untrue. However it is true it looks like it was made for that little sum of money.
I do love my father and even today he kids about his one
time on a movie studio,
