Anticancer vegetables.

By Lynda Kohn

Cancer fighting vegetables
Foods as cancer preventives. There are certain foods that are believed to be helpful in preventing cancer. These include fruits, vegetables, and certain spices. I am only writing on the vegetables that many health experts believe to be malignant preventive. The ones I choose to write are the ones that the most research has been performed on. By research I mean scientific studies that were published in peer reviewed medical journals. I don't believe in reporting anecdotal information. My reporting is only on either very promising or proven reports. My sources are a medical herbal and natural supplement handbook(Mosby) and alternative health books with citations by MDs, Phds.
Limitations
As good and as irrefutable the proof one can not ingest these foods and ignore every other method in preventing cancer. There is no absolute guarantee when will never get any carcinogenic disease even if one does everything one should to live a healthy lifestyle. One reason for this is there are carcinogens in one's environment. While it is true these foods can help reduce the risk of malignancies, even in the fact of envirotoxins, it is not guaranteed one will never get cancer. It is essential one has checkups and do what their primary tells them. If uncertain regarding one's primary's instructions one can consider if a second opinion from a different qualified health care professional is warranted.

Antioxidants are substances that help prevent the decay and degeneration of cells. They help maintain the stability of one's cells. Antioxidants protect against oxygen damage to one's cells. Oxygen damages cells simular to oxygen damaging various metals. This damage is called rust when it happens to some metals. In humans it is seen as a source of various degenerative diseases including malignancies. One particular type of antioxidant relevant to this report are flavenoids. They are found in the following vegetables: artichokes, asparagus, beans, beets, cabbage, Kale, parsley, sweet potatoes.
